After a LLLLOOONNNGGG break from blogging. We’ll catch up, I swear!…….
So, we decided to give Whole30 a try. We’ve been talking about doing it for a while, but always found a reason not to. Recently, I (Morgan) have realized that while my food and exercise habits have drastically changed over the last few years, my true weakness is sugar. In all forms. Thankfully our active lifestyle has kept the numbers on the scale reasonable, but we all know that sugar in large amounts simply CAN’T be good. For anyone. So, we finally decided to “bite the bullet” and try something new. If it doesn’t go well, the sugar (and other foods) will be there waiting for us, right?
To make it even more exciting, Michael is now moved to Texas for his new job at Baker Hughes. So, we’re living states apart, in different time zones, and a little stressed with the plans to get me to Texas ASAP. Oh, and to top it off, we (along with Michael’s brother Bryan) are the race directors for a wonderful charity event having its first year in Nashville – The Cupid’s Undie Run. Extra fun. Extra travel. Extra stress. Extra reasons to eat bad food, right? No. Actually, the race is about 30 days away, and since we’ll be in out “bedroom best” for the event, the timing is perfect.
We’re going to individually take notes each day on our experience in hopes that on Day 30 we can look back on the journey, make an assessment, and a plan for the future. Here goes nothing…or everything!?
Day 1 – Morgan’s Thoughts
Today was rough. Not because of Whole30 though, but because of last night. Since we decided to do Whole30 on (KIND OF) a whim, I intended to grocery shop last night for some staples. Unfortunately, my vehicle broke down on the way to pick the doggies up from iCare K-9. Plus, the power was out in the neighborhood I broke down in. Thankfully, Moe and Annemarie were able to rescue me, take me to dinner, and drop me off at home. The truck was left in their driveway and towed this morning. So, I was sans car and working from home all day. I ate a very late breakfast (around 11am) of three eggs, 3 slices of bacon, and a handful of blackberries. About two hours later I had a handful of walnuts (ooops, not the best choice) and some strawberries. Before dinner I hoofed it to the grocery store to grab a FEW items (since I had to carry them home) to get me through. I picked up a rotisserie chicken, avocados, grape tomatoes, a couple of bananas, and a couple sweet potatoes. So, after removing the skin (in case there was some sort of sugar glaze on it), I made myself a fried mess of two eggs, chicken, tomatoes, onion, and bacon. And I added some blackberries and pecan pieces on the side. Needless to say my food wasn’t creative. It was a hodge-podge of sorts. I DID make some unsweet black tea which is my go-to non-water drink these days. So, I did it. I survived day one. I’m learning. I’m hoping to get more creative with my food options in the coming days and weeks. Onward and upward.
Also, I took my weight, BF%, and waist measurement today. I know we’re not supposed to worry about the scale for the 30 days, but on day 30 I’ll take them again. I can’t help it. I love metrics. No, I’m not posting them here…yet. I’m a chicken. Maybe by day 30 I’ll get over myself. :)
Day 1 – Michael’s Thoughts
Today was only difficult because I didn’t get much sleep. I was falling asleep at my desk, it was a mess. Otherwise no food issues. I ate grapefruit, 3 eggs, and bacon for breakfast. I ate crock pot roast, sweet potatoes, onions, and garlic for lunch, with cucumber, avocado, carrots & olive oil, and blackberries for lunch. The crock pot meal was pretty fatty; I didn’t trim the roast. I snack on some raw almonds. Some cravings and hunger pains in the evening, but nothing terrible. I had a light dinner: bacon, cucumber, and carrots. (I went shopping for some more meal option and I cooked up 2 pounds of bacon for the rest of the week. I made some unsweet Lipton iced great tea (w/ flavoring) for another option to drink. Let’s see how tomorrow goes!
